Ph.D. in Business Administration

So, You Want to Graduate?

You've passed your comps and you've successfully proposed. Now what?

You have 4 (four) years from the date of the Oral Comprehensive Exam in which to complete your dissertation and graduate.

Graduation Application Process

The application for graduation is located in MyMav through the student self-service area. Candidates are strongly encouraged to contact their advisors before applying to graduate as students must pass their final dissertation before a degree will be awarded. Graduation application deadlines are posted on the Graduate Calendar.

If you have further questions about the Graduation Application for the PhD degree, feel free to contact gradteam@uta.edu or Tammy Shoemaker by email or by phone (817.272.0846).

Course Enrollment

In the semester you plan to graduate you must be enrolled in BSAD 6699, 6999 or 7399. You may only enroll in 7399 ONCE. Plan accordingly!

Dissertation Defense

At least 3 weeks prior to holding your dissertation defense, submit your Dissertation Defense Request Form to the Ph.D. Coordinator. At this time you should also give a copy of your dissertation to your committee. Use the UTA Electronic Thesis & Dissertation (ETD) Submission on the web. Note only PDF documents are accepted. Arrange with your Dissertation Chair to run your dissertation through safe score (on Blackboard) and indicate your score on the Dissertation Defense Rubric. After your defense, submit your Dissertation Defense Report and Dissertation Rubrics (completed by your chair). Additional information is available online.

Complete details and submission links are located at the UTA Libraries page with Thesis and Dissertation info. Please go to library.uta.edu/etd and follow the instructions.

Unconditional versus Conditional Pass

To graduate, you must pass your dissertation defense unconditionally. If you pass conditionally, and are not able to meet the conditions by the end of the semester, you will need to: Reapply for graduation the following semester, enroll in a course (usually a 1-hour dissertation course), and meet the conditions. When conditions are met, an email must be sent from your Dissertation Chair to both the Ph.D. Programs Coordinator and gradteam@uta.edu noting that all conditions were met and that you can now be considered as passed unconditionally.
