Are you new to campus or only recently hearing about the Staff Advisory Council (SAC)? We sat down with our SAC President, Alicia Gill, to get the What, Why and How of being involved in SAC.
What?
The Staff Advisory Council (SAC) is an elected group of staff members across UTA who serve as representatives of the staff to the University administration.
Why?
There are several benefits of joining SAC but Alicia Gill says, “The benefit is networking with other staff around campus to learn more about what each one does and who to call if you have a problem; however, the biggest one is having your voice heard by the President, Provost and all of upper administration.”.
How?
Being involved in SAC is made as accessible as possible on the UTA campus. According to Gill, each employee is allowed up to 5 hours a month to participate in UTA-sponsored events and organizations. Most obligations for SAC will not exceed the 5-hour allotment and the time can be worked out within your department.
But how do nominations work?
During the month of July, a staff member can nominate themselves or another person to be on SAC. Once nominated, those within the district will have a chance to vote for the staff member they would like to act as their representative. Each district is given a certain number of votes based on how many staff members they have within that district. If there are more nominees than open spots, those with the highest votes will be selected. If not, all nominated candidates are brought in to be voted on by the SAC Body.
