Supporting New International Students from Admission to Arrival
New international graduate students face a variety of special circumstances, from regulatory considerations to cultural adjustment issues to practical concerns. This session, presented by Graduate Admissions and the Office of International Education, will focus on how you can support your department’s prospective and incoming international students from the time of application through their first semester at UTA to help set them up for success. Graduate advisors are invited to submit questions in advance to graduate.studies@uta.edu.

Graduate School Updates
Join Dr. James Grover, Dean of the Graduate School, Dr. Raymond Jackson, Associate Dean, and graduate school staff to learn more about graduate school programs, resources, and initiatives designed to assist you and your graduate students. In this live online workshop, Dr. Grover and Dr. Jackson will share updates with and answer questions from the graduate advisor community. Graduate Advisors are invited to submit questions in advance to graduate.studies@uta.edu.

MyMav Training
As an advisor, you will most likely need to use MyMav, the University’s student information system. All the pertinent information about a student, including demographic data, registration, grades, financial aid, tuition and fees, and degree plan requirements is housed in MyMav. (The MyMav Tutorials for Faculty page provides guidance for new users.)
You will need to get access to areas not necessarily needed by other faculty members. To get access to the areas of MyMav necessary for advisors, your Department Chair should contact the OIT Help Desk on your behalf to request access to the screens necessary for advising. Also, make sure to attend GMAP training.
Advising Resources
Other resources for advisors include the following:
- Advising videos from the Office of International Education (CPT and OPT)
- Other Graduate Advisors (One of the best resources is the knowledge of your peers!)
- Graduate Catalog
- Graduate Faculty Membership
- Information for Faculty/Staff regarding PhD requirements
- University Handbook of Operating Procedures
