Staff Remote Work Agreements

Overview

An employee is performing remote work when there is a department-approved work schedule that includes working at a non-UTA site on a consistent regularly-scheduled basis.

Remote work is not when an employee has a temporary adjustment to a work schedule that is made to permit staff to work remotely on a non-routine basis.

This policy does not apply to remote work associated with field activity of staff who must perform duties in the field as a part of their jobs pertaining to research or teaching activity.

Types of primary remote work arrangements include, but are not limited to, one or a combination of the following: 

  • Primarily Remote Work Week - The employee works remotely for the entire work week on a regular basis.
  • Hybrid Remote - The employee is approved to work remotely for certain days during a work week and works on site for the other days.
  • Fully Remote from Hire Date - This is by exception only. Managers must receive approval for these remote work arrangements from the Dean/Vice President and the Chief Human Resources Officer prior to job advertisement.

Notes

  • Remote work agreements should be reviewed on an ongoing basis to ensure that the arrangement meets the department’s needs and complies with all requirements.
  • There is no remote work agreement form for student employees.
  • If you would like to change your remote work schedule after approval, your department may submit a revised RWA no later than one week prior to the start of the new schedule. Please include a reason for the change. ***If you plan to request a different schedule for the period of June 1 through August 31, please submit your request no later than May 24th.

Process

  1. Meet with your supervisor to discuss your preferred arrangement.
    1. If you plan to work standard-length workdays on campus five days per week, please email audrey.halvorson@uta.edu so the Dean’s Office has a record of your schedule. You do not need to complete an RWA form.
    2. If you plan to work remotely for any part of any day of the week on a consistent basis, proceed to step 2.
  2. Complete the Remote Work Agreement and review it with your supervisor.
    1. If your supervisor is not the department chair, please also have your chair sign.
  3. Email the signed form to audrey.halvorson@uta.edu for the Dean’s review no later than August 15, 2023. Once the Dean has made a determination, Audrey will email your department.
