UTA Employee Dependent Scholarship

UTA EMPLOYEE DEPENDENT SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS

The UTA Employee Dependent Scholarship (UTA-EDS) provides eligible employee’s dependents with a $500 scholarship to support them in achieving personal and professional growth and development. The UTA-EDS program assists dependents in pursuing an undergraduate degree at UTA.

  1. The UTA-EDS is a flat dollar amount of $500 per semester. It is applied to the recipient’s UTA student account on behalf of UTA after other scholarships or financial aid awards (not including loans) are applied.
  2. UTA-EDS recipients must pay any remaining balance due after the benefit has been applied.
  3. There is no limit or cap on the number of dependent children who may qualify for the dependent child tuition benefit.
  4. The scholarship must be used to attend the University of Texas at Arlington.
  • An employee's dependent becomes eligible for the UTA-EDS once the employee has completed 1 year of continuous regular full-time employment (40 work hours per week/1.0 FTE) with UTA before:
    • August 1 for the Fall semester;
    • January 1 for the Spring semester; and
    • May 1 for the Summer semester.
  • The employee must have a regular (non-temporary) appointment as of the first day of class of the academic term for which their dependent UTA-EDS receives the scholarship.
  • Retirees, student employees, and their dependents are not eligible for the UTA-EDS.
  • Eligible recipients include a spouse or child under the age of 26 who fits one of these criteria: biological child, adopted child, stepchild, child of managing conservator, foster child, or legal ward.
  • Employees must certify the eligibility of each dependent requesting this benefit.
  • The employee's dependent must apply and be admitted to UTA, and enrolled prior to the award of the UTA-EDS. If the employee's dependent is already admitted, they must be a student in good academic standing and enrolled as a student at UTA.
  • The employee's dependent must be registered in a degree-seeking classification.

Step 1: Employee provides required supporting documentation of dependent eligibility such as a marriage certificate, a birth certificate, appropriate adoption paperwork, federal tax forms, or other documents that support the dependent relationship; if not already on file with the Office of TCE, Benefits Services. Required documents must be uploaded to the MyUTBenefits portal no later than:

  • Fall Semester - The first day of class.
  • Spring Semester - The first day of class.
  • Summer Semester - The first day of Summer 1 classes.

Step 2: Employee completes the UTA Employee Dependent Scholarship (UTA-EDS) Certification Form and provide the completed and signed form to their dependent to upload with their scholarship application.

Step 3: Employee's dependent submits the UTA-EDS Scholarship Application and the UTA-EDS Certification Form through the Mav ScholarShop for approval no earlier than eight weeks prior to the start of the semester. The completed UTA-EDS Scholarship Application must be submitted to the Scholarship Office no later than:

  • Fall Semester - The first day of class.
  • Spring Semester - The first day of class.
  • Summer Semester - The first day of Summer 1 classes.

To continue to be eligible for the UTA EDS, the employee's dependent must meet the following requirements:

  • Maintain a GPA of 2.0 as an undergraduate student.
  • If an employee's dependent fails to meet the criteria, they will be eligible once their GPA returns to 2.0.
  • The employee must remain in a continuous regular full-time employment status throughout the semester.

Employees and their dependent recipients must meet all the eligibility criteria for the UTA-EDS throughout the semester. If eligibility requirements are unmet, the employee's dependent will not be eligible to participate the following semester.
