Accommodations Under the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990) and ADAAA (Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008) for Faculty and Staff

The University of Texas at Arlington is committed to the full and total inclusion of all individuals and to the principle of individual empowerment. To this end, policies and procedures must ensure that any person with a disability will not, on the basis of that disability, be denied full and equal access or otherwise be subjected to discrimination under programs or activities offered by the University. The University of Texas at Arlington is also committed to the principle of Equal Employment Opportunity in the employment of individuals with disabilities.

Next class to be announced.

Join us for an interactive discussion about the basic principles of the Act, tips on how supervisors can assist their employees with accommodations, and how to create a welcoming environment on campus for employees and our student customers who have disabilities.

The University of Texas Arlington does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its programs, services and activities.

The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) is a federal anti-discrimination statute which provides civil rights protection to individuals with disabilities in the areas of employment, public accommodations, state and local government services, and telecommunications. The ADA and ADAAA were designed to remove barriers which prevent qualified individuals with disabilities from enjoying the same opportunities that are available to persons without disabilities.

It is an interactive process between a representative in human resources and the employee to discuss the best solution or necessary accommodations that will assist an employee in performing the essential functions of their position.

The ADA and ADAAA provides that no qualified individual with a disability shall, on the basis of disability, be excluded from participation in or be denied the benefits of the services, programs, or activities of the University of Texas Arlington.
