Disputes regarding interpretation of policy requirements or decisions made by the IRE will be referred to the Institutional Official, the Vice President for Research.  The IO may, at their discretion, appoint an ad hoc panel of experts to review the disputed matter.  Outside experts, including security experts and NSABB, may also be consulted prior to determining the course of action.  After consideration, the IO may deny the appeal, or request that parts of a previous decision by the IRE be reconsidered by the committee. The IRE shall reconsider the determination after receiving input from the IO. After this reconsideration, the subsequent decision of the IRE shall be final.
